The Cass is internationally recognised for its high quality teaching, excellent facilities and unique interdisciplinary opportunities. We offer short courses at every stage – from introductory level through to refining the skills of practising professionals.
In our well equipped studios students learn through making, experiment with process and technique and develop skills for personal and professional practice.
Our short courses are led by recognised industry professionals in specialist spaces including workshops, studios, TV and recording studios, editing suites, darkrooms and Metropolitan Works - our digital centre.
The Cass is expanding its short course programme, recently creating an exciting new range of Jewellery and Silversmithing, Photography, Soft Furnishing and Animation courses. Our Aldgate Hub is served by many bus routes, underground stations and Liverpool Street and Fenchurch Street mainline railway stations. For more details of routes and timetables, visit Transport for London.
There are a number of bus routes near our Holloway Hub, with several buses running right outside the campus. The area is served by mainline station Drayton Park, and several underground stations including Holloway Road, Arsenal and Highbury & Islington. The Cass Short Courses

1. Fees
1.1 Full payment of the course fees must be received prior to commencement of the course. Your place on the course is not guaranteed until full payment is received.
2. Payment
2.1 Fees can be paid by credit or debit card online. Payment by cheque is also accepted; please make all cheques payable to London Metropolitan University. Please note that cheques can take up to three weeks to clear.
2.2 If your company or institution is paying the course fees and would prefer to be invoiced, please write full details on the booking form and a reference / PO number if available. Payment is required within 30 days of the date of the invoice and before commencement of the course.
3. Discounts
3.1 A limited amount of discounted spaces are available for all London Met students (on credit bearing courses) and staff. The discount does not apply to short course students. The discount is 30% of the full course fee.
3.2 Proof of entitlement to the discount is required before the start of the course. For students, a student number is required.
3.3 If proof is not received before the start of the course, the remaining 30% of the course fee is due on the first day of the course.
3.4 Anyone wishing to claim the discounted rate must do so at the time of booking as the discount cannot be claimed retrospectively.
4. Materials and equipment
4.1 Unless stated, the course fee does not include the cost of materials.
4.2 Details of any materials to be supplied by the delegate will be provided either before the start of the course or at the beginning of the course.
5. Student cards
5.1 All students on courses of 10 weeks or more are required to have student cards in order to access the building and to use the library and photocopying facilities.
5.2 In order to receive a student card, please email a high resolution, passport sized image with your name, date of birth and course title to TheCass.ShortCourses@londonmet.ac.uk at least three weeks before the start of the course. If you are unable to email a photograph, please send a passport photo with your name, date of birth and course title written clearly on the reverse to: The Cass Short Courses, Metropolitan Works, Weyhill Road Entrance, 41 Commercial Road, London, E1 1LA.
5.3 As a short course student, you are able to borrow up to 3 items at a time from the library.
5.4 Student cards will be given to you at reception on the first day of the course (if images are received three weeks before the start of the course).
6. Cancellation by us
6.1 Please note that courses have minimum attendance levels and may be cancelled if too few bookings are received.
6.2 We reserve the right to:-
6.2.1 amend or cancel courses
6.2.2 change course location
6.2.3 substitute lecturers and tutors.
6.3 If we cancel a course we shall endeavour to give you at least one weeks notice and you will have the option of transferring to another course or of having a full refund of the fees. Refunds can take up to three weeks to clear.
6.4 We will not be liable for any losses (including, but not limited to, travel and accommodation costs) arising as a consequence of any modification or cancellation of courses as set out above beyond the cost of the course fee.
7. Cancellation by you
7.1 If you wish to cancel your place on a course your request should be made in writing (via letter or email).
7.2 If your written request is received more than three weeks prior to the course start date, you will be entitled to a full refund, minus a £30 administration fee or to transfer to another course.
7.3 If your written request is received within three weeks of the course start date, we are not able to offer you a refund.
7.4 Our 30 week Modern and Traditional Upholstery cut off dates differ. The 2013 place cancellation date is Friday 2nd August 2013. We will not be able to offer refunds or transfers after this date.
8. Non-attendance
8.1 Non-attendance of classes due to illness or for personal or professional reasons does not provide the right to refunds, extra tuition or a transfer.
8.2 However, in such an event we will consider all the circumstances and take such action that we consider to be fair and reasonable.
8.3 Please note that if alternative options are offered there may be an additional administrative charge.
9. Class postponement
If a class is postponed for reasons for which we are responsible, including staff illness, we will make every reasonable effort to reschedule the class or to add the missed hours onto the remaining course classes.
10. Travel
Please ensure that your place is confirmed and the course is running before you make any travel arrangements. We do not offer refunds for travel or accommodation costs in accordance with Clause 6.4 above.
11. Visas
11.1 We recommend you contact the Embassy in your own country to check visa requirements before you book your course. We are unable to assist with Visa applications. 11.2 If you cannot attend a course because you have not obtained a visa to enter the UK no refund will be offered.
12. Disabled delegates
We will make reasonable adjustments for delegates with specific requirements. Please contact us at TheCass.ShortCourses@londonmet.ac.uk when booking a place.
13. Delegate conduct
Delegates are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner and to recognise that other delegates also require support and assistance. If a delegate becomes persistently disruptive we reserve the right to offer a verbal or written warning and, if this does not resolve the situation, we may, at our discretion, ask the delegate to leave the course. 14. Minimum age
Students on our Short Courses must be 18 or over.
14. Recording
Due to copyrights, and to respect other participants, the use of audio and/or visual recording is not permitted during any course.
15. Force Majeure
We shall not be liable for any failure or delay in the performance, in whole or part, of any or our obligations arising from or attributable to acts, events, omissions or accidents beyond our reasonable control including, but not limited to strikes, lock-outs or other industrial disputes (whether involving our workforce or the workforce of any other party), act of God, war, riot, civil commotion, malicious damage, compliance with any law or governmental order, rule regulation or direction, accident, breakdown of plant or machinery, fire, flood, storm, pandemics, epidemics or other outbreaks of disease or infection, failure in the public supply of electricity, heating, lighting, air conditioning or telecommunications equipment.
